  • Support the Island Medical Program

The power of individual philanthropy is transformative. The Island Medical Program (IMP) will thrive with your support. Gifts of all sizes enable us to develop our innovative and growing program. The generosity of friends will spur the program’s growth as a place for educating the next generation of physicians, many of whom may serve our Island communities.

    An investment in our future

The IMP is an innovative collaboration between the University of Victoria and UBC that has increased the number of medical school admission spaces within BC and aims to bolster the number of physicians practicing on the Island.

This distributed program brings UBC’s Faculty of Medicine’s recognized reputation and research to the development of the Island’s next generation of physicians.

Studies show that doctors tend to practice in the regions in which they were educated. The IMP admits 32 students each year. In their first two years, students attend classes on the UVic campus.  In their third and fourth years they fan out across the Island to complete their clerkships in urban and rural communities from Victoria to Port McNeill, gaining first-hand experience on the rigours and rewards of Island medical practice.

Your gift to the Island Medical Program is a lasting gift to health care on Vancouver Island. We have ambitious plans to build a solid foundation of community engagement with the IMP. We invite you to join us.
