Year 1 & 2 Site Director, Foundations of Medicine
    Office: MSB 114

In Foundations of Medicine, students acquire the basics of medicine in a series of system blocks (eg. cardiovascular, pulmonary, gastrointestinal etc.) that explore health and illness from a clinically-relevant basic science perspective. As Course Director, Dr. Thompson is responsible for all aspects of local course delivery, including the recruitment and orientation of local teaching faculty and PBL tutors and development of course curriculum and materials. She works collaboratively with FMED Course Directors across the Distributed MD Undergraduate Program as well as the Block Chairs.

Dr. Thompson received his MD from Queen’s University and completed a Family Practice Residency with Memorial University of Newfoundland. He’s since been involved with rural family practice, including emergency and obstetrical work, at several hospitals, most recently Stokes Medical Clinic (Schreiber, ON) and McCausland General Hospital (Terrace Bay, ON). He’s also served as a locum in Hornepayne, ON; Geraldton, ON; Richard’s Landing, ON; and Port McNeill, BC. Dr. Thompson is currently a Medical Director with Island Health and Assistant Professor of Family Medicine at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine—two roles he will maintain.
