    Biography

    Dr. Black was recently appointed Assistant Dean, MD Undergraduate Program, Students Affairs, Island Medical Program (IMP) effective July 1, 2016 to June 30, 2019. 

    As Assistant Dean, Students Affairs for the Island Medical Program, Dr. Black is responsible for providing confidential help, support and advocacy for IMP medical students. He also provides support for various IMP student initiatives, including health and wellness ideas, charitable projects and other class events.

    Dr. Black a Clinical Professor in UBC's Department of Family Practice. He completed his MD and postgraduate training at the University of Calgary and has worked as a family physician for several years in the areas of palliative care and inner-city medicine. Dr. Black has been involved with the Island Medical Program since the beginning, both as a Problem-Based Learning tutor and as Discipline Specific (Palliative Care) Site Coordinator. He also has an interest in international health, particularly in the area of increasing capacity and availability of palliative care and has been involved in a number of projects and initiatives in a number of countries including Nepal, India, Tanzania and Brazil.
