    The Island Medical Program

The Island Medical Program (IMP) delivers the University of British Columbia (UBC) Doctor of Medicine (MD) Undergraduate Program in collaboration with the University of Victoria (UVic).

Established in 2004, the IMP aims to address regional shortages of physicians in BC particularly in rural and small communities. The IMP is one of four distinct sites within UBC's distributed program which allows students to complete their training in underserved communities, where, as studies suggest, they are more likely to return to practice once their training is complete. This province-wide approach is made possible through robust information technology that allows instructors and students in many locations to interact simultaneously. Read about our first 10 years!
